Avoid payment redirection, PIN theft, fake reversals and urgent transfer scams.
What you will learn
- Verify recipients and transaction details
- Protect PINs codes and financial notifications
- Respond quickly to an incorrect or fraudulent payment
Safety note
Use invented examples during practice. Never publish or send real passwords, PINs, verification codes, recovery codes, private tokens or complete financial details. If money or account access may be at risk, contact the relevant provider promptly through independently verified official details.
Check before sending
Use only the official app, USSD code or verified agent process. Confirm the recipient name, number, amount and fee before authorising.
A small first payment can reduce error when a recipient is new, but it does not prove that an offer is legitimate. Confirm the underlying transaction separately.
Protect the account
Never disclose a PIN, one-time code or full account credential. Shield the keypad and do not let another person guide your entries during an unexpected call.
Fake messages may claim that money was sent or reversed. Verify through your actual balance and transaction history, not a forwarded message.
Act after a problem
Contact the financial provider immediately through its official number or app. Ask whether a transfer can be stopped, flagged or investigated, but understand recovery is not guaranteed.
Keep transaction references, dates, numbers and messages. Change compromised credentials and report impersonation or theft to the appropriate provider and authority.
