Web Design for Beginners ยท Part 10

Publishing and Completing a Small Website

Prepare, publish and maintain a complete beginner website with a repeatable checklist.

Prepare, publish and maintain a complete beginner website with a repeatable checklist.

What you will learn

  • Prepare files and hosting safely
  • Publish and verify the live site
  • Complete and document a small final project

Before you begin

Create a separate practice folder and use non-sensitive sample content. Keep backup copies before restructuring files. Browser interfaces vary, so use the browser developer tools available on your computer.

Prepare for launch

Remove test content, private notes, credentials and unused files. Confirm filenames, paths, contact details, legal information and permissions for images or fonts.

Use a reputable host, HTTPS and secure account authentication. Keep domain, hosting and recovery details in a protected record.

Publish and verify

Upload through the host control panel, a deployment service or another approved method. Confirm the correct public folder and preserve a local source copy.

Open the live site in a private browser window. Test HTTPS, navigation, forms, responsive layout and error pages because the server can behave differently from local files.

Maintain the site

The final project should include a homepage, at least two supporting pages, consistent navigation, responsive styling, accessible content and a working or clearly labelled demonstration form.

Schedule backups, dependency updates, content reviews and form testing. A website is an ongoing service, not a file that remains correct forever.

Guided practice

  1. Complete a three-to-five-page responsive website.
  2. Run the content, accessibility, performance and security checklist.
  3. Publish to an approved test or live host and verify every page.
  4. Save the source, launch date and maintenance notes.

Knowledge check

  1. What information must never be uploaded publicly?
  2. Why test the hosted version separately?
  3. What ongoing maintenance should be scheduled?

Completion standard

Continue when you can complete the guided practice and explain the knowledge-check answers in your own words.
